Thank You Teachers
There are moments when I realize that I’ve taken something important completely for granted. It usually happens when someone says something unintentionally wise, a simple statement that triggers a whole new understanding of the situation. Maybe you’ve experienced this. It’s like turning on a light switch, all of a sudden you remember something you really always knew. Now I don’t have these moments regularly. I wish I did; I’d have a greater appreciation of the miracles that happen around us every day.
I had one of these moments just last month, talking to a friend. Her son was about to complete 4th grade and she was looking for gifts for his teachers. She said something to the effect of, “I’d like to give them something nice, just for putting up with my kid all year.” That simple statement got me thinking of all we owe to teachers in this world.
They don’t just “put up” with our kids. For the most part they civilize them! And what an incredible responsibility that is! A gift is the least we can do… a sincere “Thank you” is even better. With the new school year about to start in a few weeks, I’d like to say thank you to all the teachers out there. Thank you for what you do for our children.
God bless,
Jim Shore
