Valentine's Day
Artists have a reputation for being great romantics. I don’t know where that comes from… or even if it’s true. But it doesn’t have much to do with me! When it comes to grand romantic gestures that sweep a girl off her feet for Valentine’s or the like I generally miss the mark. And I do try. It’s just that I usually get silly and tie in something I find humorous or amusing (like the time I gave my wife Jan “the kitchen sink”). That’s always a big mistake. Jan has a great sense of humor. She just doesn’t find me very funny!
So I’ve found for Valentine's Day it’s always best to keep it simple. Chocolates, roses, candlelit dinners, that sort of thing. That may not fall under the category of grand gesture but it’s safe! More importantly, it gets the meaning across. And if I want to add something fun or whimsical I can never go wrong with something from Disney, like Winnie the Pooh and his friends. The characters are all sweet and heartwarming, and the sentiment always crystal clear. This line from A. A. Milne’s classic storybook pretty much says it all, “If ever there is tomorrow when we’re not together… there is something you must always remember. You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem and smarter than you think. But the most important thing is, even if we’re apart… I’ll always be with you.” Jan loves that… and I do too! A little Pooh and Friends is the perfect gift for the season of love. Take it from someone who’s made plenty of mistakes along the way!
